These baskets are handwoven in a small village in Ghana, West Africa in the Bolgatanga Region. The people who weave these baskets are paid fair wages for their work, allowing them to live with dignity. Weaving is a traditional skill of these people, mostly women, who are the primary support of their families.
These sturdy, all natural Bolga baskets are made of straw locally called elephant grass with goat hide handles.
These baskets are very resilient. They can easily be reshaped by briefly soaking in water and reforming by hand.
